Qurban ( قربان) in Islam refers to a sacrificial act, which is normally tied to commemoration of a specific activity, day , event or festival. The term “Qurban” comes from the Arabic root word “q-r-b,” meaning “to draw near” or “to approach.” It signifies the act of offering a sacrifice to Allah as an expression of devotion, gratitude, and submission, with the intention of drawing closer to Him. In Islam, the act of sacrifice is a symbol of a Muslim’s readiness to lay down their life, and to sacrifice all their interests and desires in the cause of truth. The purpose of sacrifice is not fulfilled only by shedding blood of an animal, but rather when one submits themselves completely to the command of Allah. This has been laid down in Sura Hajj, verse 37; “Not their flesh, nor their blood reaches Allah, but it is the piety from you that reaches Him.”Further, Qurban is not only a spiritual act but also has a social and charitable aspect. The meat from the sacrificed animal is normally divided into three parts: one-third is given to the needy, one-third is shared with relatives and friends, and one-third is kept by the family who performs the sacrifice. This ensures that the benefits of the sacrifice are shared with the wider community, especially those in need.At Qurban Mart, we provide a dedicated services for some forms of Qurban including Udhiyah, Aqeeqah, Sadaq and Nazir.
